For training classes you will need the follow items:

  1. Your Dog (a no brainer, lol)
  2. A food motivated or hungry dog: not just having had dinner (free feeding or food available at all times is very ineffective) or tired from a strenuous hike
  3. A properly fitted collar or harness.  Absolutely NO choke chains or prong collars!!!
  4. A 6′ leash with a secure snap, and hopefully a wrist loop.  Flexi-leads (retractable) are not permitted as they are not safe and teach dogs how to pull.
  5. LOTS of treats, pea size or smaller.  These treats should be:
    • Soft, not hard or crunchy
    • Aromatic for the dog, of high value (not dry dog food)
    • Easy to scarf down
    • Not messy, sticky, crumbly
    • Healthy Treats: probably 100-200 treats available per class, tho you may not need that many….better to have too many than to run out.  As a good rate of reinforcement is 15/minute, it won’t take long to go thru them, this being the reason for SMALL.  We don’t want to fill our dogs up.  I personally train with Fresh Pet Select Dog Food.
  6. A treat bag or similar to keep your training treats in.  I have them available to purchase if you need one.  A ziplock bag, jean pockets, etc won’t work.  Ziplock plastic bags are dangerous and therefore not permitted in the training area as treat bags.
  7. PLEASE POTTY YOUR DOG OUTSIDE BEFORE ENTERING THE TRAINING ROOM!  Please pick up after your dog!
