What is AKC Obedience?

Developed in the 1930s, Obedience is one of the AKC’s oldest sporting events. From walking on- and off-leash to retrieving and jumping, or demonstrating your dog’s ability to stay, Obedience trials feature dogs that are well-behaved at home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. It is essential that the obedience dog demonstrates willingness and enjoyment while it is working with the handler.

Whether or not you want to compete, every dog owner should consider some form of obedience training. It’s the best way to establish good communication skills between you and your dog – and to make sure that your dog is the most well-behaved one in your neighborhood!

Anything’s PAWSable’s Obedience classes are designed to help you train and prepare for AKC Obedience Competition and earn obedience titles on your dog. There are several different levels of competition to move thru and title in. Not just registered purebred dogs, but any dog can compete.

Dogs of any age over 6 months can compete, and few dogs are too old to learn. These classes are offered on an ‘on-demand’ basis. The type of skills tested include loose-leash walking in ‘heel position’, both on and off leash, straight sits, downs, stands, stays, a recall, and longer timed sits and downs. The more advanced levels include jumping, a retrieve, a retrieve over a jump, and scent discrimination.

I offer Obedience Classes in 4 levels:  The 1st is ‘The Critical Core’, the 2nd is Obedience/Rally-O Skillbuilding, the 3rd is Open and the 4th is Utility.

Prerequisites: Family Dog Manners or comparable and/or an understanding of positive training methods.

Price: $175/6 Weeks of classes for each level of training   (these levels are the same as the Rally-O classes)

Why Learn with Anything’s Pawsable?

Regardless of our vision of how our dog will act or perform, a solid foundation is critical. This foundation must be built upon the dog feeling confident in whatever we are asking it to do. The dog needs to understand and trust the process. We cannot ‘assume’ that he ‘knows it’. Dogs always do the BEST they can with the EDUCATION they are given in the ENVIRONMENT we are asking them to perform in. All of Anything’s PAWSable classes are designed to build layers of understanding for your dog to help him be more successful. Both group classes and individual assistance are available.
